About the Project

Garibaldi's Letters is a digital edition dedicated to the correspondence of Giuseppe Garibaldi, one of the central figures of the Italian Risorgimento. Garibaldi maintained an extensive network of correspondence that linked him not only to various parts of Europe, but also to South America, Central America, and the United States. This project presents TEI-encoded transcriptions of selected letters alongside high-resolution facsimiles and editorial annotations, aiming to provide researchers, students, and the broader public with accessible materials that reflect both the historical reach and textual richness of Garibaldi’s epistolary legacy.

The project also includes a Biographical Dictionary that consolidates all personal name entries found in the printed indexes of the Epistolario di Giuseppe Garibaldi, volumes 1 to 14. This component enables users to explore individuals mentioned in Garibaldi's letters, view the volume and page references where they appear, and access brief biographical notes. Each entry page features translation support to make descriptions accessible in English.
